The Three Little Pigs at Bunnings

This week we visited Bunnings at Tower Junction. Our story of the week this week was The Three Little Pigs. We set out to have fun retelling the story with puppets and props.

On Monday we went on an outing to Bunnings to have a look at some of the building materials that the pigs could have used to build their houses.

Matthew was excited to see this kiwi light.

We found some little bales of straw in the garden department. It would cost a lot to make a house out of little bales of straw. The pigs would get a better deal buying big ones from a farm feed supplier. Juliette and Sam had a good look at the straw.

The small bales of straw are a handy size. Matthew tucked one under his arm and Tobias checked it out to see what it felt like.

When we went outside we found some wood that could be used to make a house.

Then we looked for something stronger. Bricks are much better for keeping Mr Wolf out!
Bricks are very hard and heavy. They would make a very strong house that wouldn't blow away when Mr Wolf huffed and puffed.

We thought Bunnings was a very good place for the Three Little Pigs to visit to find building materials. While we were there we bought some plants for the tiny garden outside of our classroom.

Caleb, Tobias, Samantha, Juliette and Matthew were brilliant to take out to Bunnings. They were a credit to Allenvale School with their excellent behaviour. It was lovely to get lots of smiles from members of the public. Well done everyone!

A little about us....

We have been together as a class since the beginning of the 2017 school year. Almost everyone moved into a whole new room, and had to get to know completely new staff. Now that we are well settled into routines, and have built strong relationships, we are really moving forward and having lots of fun.

I would like to share a little about each of us.

Matthew is our animal expert. He loves music and dancing, but does not like loud noises! Matthew is a keen cook and artist.

Caleb is another music and dance fan. He loves running around and jumping on the trampoline. He always has cool hair. Swimming is one of his favourite things to do.

Eve also loves music. She much prefers bare feet, even when it is chilly. Eve has a brilliant sense of humour and a beautiful smile. She loves the beach and going to Big Fun Gym.

Juliette loves to play and sing. She enjoys getting out and about for walks. Juliette is a very kind and loving person, but she does have a mischievous streak!
Sam loves to get out and about for drives and walks. She always likes to carry the outing bag. Sam is a music fan too. She likes to listen to new things all the time. Sam loves making herself nests under blankets so she feels all cozy.
Tobias would like to play all day. He loves to joke and play tricks on people. He thinks surprises are so funny! Tobias is very interested in the natural world, and loves to visit Orana Park and Willowbank at the weekend.

Our teacher assistant Fay has been here at Allenvale for many years. She loves getting out and about for walks and is interested in all sorts of things. Once you get her started making things, she finds it hard to stop!

Marg is our other teacher assistant. She thinks she is bossy - more like determined to see everyone does things as independently as possible. Marg loves a joke, so we all have to watch out!

I have been a teacher at Allenvale for rather a long time, but every day is a new learning opportunity. I specialise in working with students with higher levels of need, particularly in the area of communication. I feel it is very important for the parents of our students to feel supported and valued.

We love to have fun together, and we believe that being kind to one another all the time is a great way to be.

Welcome to Room 10 at Allenvale School

Thank-you for joining us! We are one of the amazing classes here at Allenvale. Our whole school is especially for students from the ages of 5 to 21 who have extraordinary learning needs. Our class has six students from the ages of 10 to 17. We focus on communication, social skill building, self-management and life skills. We have one teacher (that's me - Fiona), and two teacher assistants, Fay and Marg.

Here at Allenvale our core values are Belonging, Independence, Generosity and Success. We love to celebrate our learning. We are excited by little achievements as well as the giant ones. Our blog is for sharing our fun times, learning moments and achievements, and there might be some tips and good ideas along the way.

Not everyone in the class feels comfortable having their photo taken, so it can be very tricky to catch a brilliant photo of everyone every time I get the camera out. I'll be doing my best to make sure everyone has an opportunity to share what they are doing, but if our students prefer not to have their photo taken on a particular day, I will respect that. We can always write about our achievements, or share our creations instead.
